​Country House Interior Design in Charlestown, Cornwall

This country house in Charlestown, Cornwall was designed as a calm and timeless retreat, combining a refined monochrome palette with vintage influences and relaxed New England styling. The aim was to create an elegant yet comfortable home that respected the character and architecture of the property while introducing warmth, texture and subtle depth.

The design balances traditional country house character with a fresh and contemporary sensibility, ensuring the spaces feel both considered and practical for modern living.

Our approach focused on creating a layered palette of soft whites, muted tones and natural textures. These colours allow the architectural features of the house to remain prominent while introducing gentle contrast and visual interest.

Selected furniture pieces were refinished to introduce a soft, timeworn quality inspired by classic shabby chic interiors, giving the spaces personality and authenticity. We also designed a bespoke media wall and boot room, carefully referencing the style of the original built-in cabinetry to ensure the additions felt entirely in keeping with the period character of the house while improving functionality for contemporary living.

Natural materials including linen, woven textures and wool carpets bring warmth and softness to the scheme, preventing the monochrome palette from feeling stark. The overall effect is understated and elegant, creating spaces that feel calm, timeless and comfortable.

Bespoke window treatments and handcrafted soft furnishings were produced in our Cornish workroom, allowing every element to be carefully designed to suit the proportions of each room. We worked closely with our carpenter to ensure the custom cabinetry was both beautifully detailed and highly practical.

This collaborative approach with skilled craftspeople ensures a level of detail and finish that elevates the interiors while maintaining the relaxed character of the home.

The finished scheme balances traditional country house charm with a lighter, contemporary sensibility. Soft monochrome tones, vintage pieces and bespoke details create a home that feels welcoming, refined and quietly luxurious.

The result is a space that respects the heritage of the property while providing a comfortable and elegant setting for modern living.
